Mayor Lori Stone, women's advocate of 25 years, uses her voice to catalyze change at the local level.

"My #1 priority is the mental behavioral health and safety of my residents. What happens from loneliness is depression, suicide, homelessness. If we can really tackle this one issue, I believe America - not just Murrieta - will be in a much better place."

Explore three lessons Mayor Stone learned on her journey towards city office:

Lesson 1:

Power of Mentorship

Mayor Stone attributes much of her success to influential women who guided her politically, socially, and philanthropically. She credits her mother and grandmother for instilling both strength and mentorship in her life.

Lesson 2:

Use Your Voice

Her early career as an owner of salons and beauty supplies stores exposed Mayor Stone to the challenges women face such as infidelity, sexual assault, domestic violence and homelessness. Determined to enact change regardless of her area of influence, she has carried the flag of women’s advocacy with her in every position of leadership she’s been trusted with.

Lesson 3:

Turn Pain into Action

Following the death of her mother to breast cancer, Mayor Stone was invited to become a founding board member of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. This pivotal moment would lead to her running for mayor of Murrieta.
